Can we build a MILLION $ Newsletter?
I am striving to find an answer to this.
Hello Everyone,
Long time, no see. I have not been able to write regularly. Fuck regularly—I haven't been writing at all. This is because I always feel that I have nothing valuable to say. Somehow, I always feel that whatever I have been up to and doing is not something great, and folks won't be interested in listening to my story. Lately, almost everyone who has ever read one of these emails has kept telling me to go on and that they are a fan of Experimentality.
So, here I am, giving it another shot.
To give you context, why the name Experimentality?
To my core, I believe the number of experiments you do is directly correlated to the possibility of you succeeding. If you swing your bat 10,000 times, you will surely hit at least one six.
So, this is my digest of experiments.
A quick catchup on where we are.
We launched Product Monk in June last year, grew it to 35K readers in 12 months, and later sold it for $45K.
We launched Marketing Monk in August last year—it has grown to 65K readers and has now become a full-blown publication with 50K followers on Instagram, 1.5K on LinkedIn, and ~500 on YouTube. It makes me almost $5-7K in revenue/month from a couple of revenue sources.
Meanwhile, I had launched multiple newsletters — Anti Hustle, Adventures of India, Marketer.club, Doctors Edge, and Angel Edge, which did not work out. Some were not monetizable, some were not in our expertise, and in some, I lost faith before even launching.
Also, four months ago, I hired a superstar developer to launch a Gen AI SaaS in the Paid Marketing (running ads on different social platforms) niche. We are still working on it and should be live with MVP by the end of this month. It's a steep learning curve. 🥹
All of this within the last 18 months. Crazy, right? 🤯
We have all read the stories about The Hustle getting sold for 25 million $, Morning Brew getting acquired for 75 Million $ and Industry Dive for a whooping 500+ Million $.
Now, these numbers are mind-blowing, right? But here's the thing—they didn't just wake up one day to these valuations. It took years of experimentation, failure, and, most importantly, consistency.
Looking at Marketing Monk's growth ($5-7K/month), I started thinking bigger. While Marketing Monk has been fantastic with its Indian audience, I realized the potential of going global. That's why we're expanding our playground!
Here's what's cooking:
Relaunching Marketer.club - This one focuses on deep marketing case studies for a global audience. Because let's face it, good marketing insights are universal! Also, another challenge.
Premium Newsletters (This is where it gets interesting!)
All Things Newsletter ($100/month)
The Ads Nerd ($40/month)
Want to hear something crazy? To hit that million-dollar mark, we need:
833 Paid subscribers for All Things Newsletter, or
~2100 Paid subscribers for The Ads Nerd
When you break it down like that, it doesn't sound impossible, right? 🤔
I have solid hypotheses about why these newsletters will succeed, but I'm saving those juicy details for the next issue (gotta keep you coming back somehow! 😉).
What's Brewing with Marketing Monk?
We're not just stopping at newsletters. We're going all-in on multiple formats:
Already experimenting with short-form videos on Instagram and YouTube
Planning to dive into long-form video content (still figuring out the logistics)
A Marketing Monk podcast is in the works (because who doesn't love a good marketing chat?)
The beauty of all these experiments? Each one teaches us something new. Some will work, some won't—but remember what I said about swinging the bat 10,000 times?
Will we hit a million dollars? The math shows it's possible. But more importantly, we're building something valuable across different formats, audiences, and continents.
Stay tuned for the next issue where I'll break down my thinking behind All Things Newsletter and The Ads Nerd. Trust me, you don't want to miss this one!
Keep experimenting,
Angad
P.S. If you're as excited about these projects as I am, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Which newsletter concept intrigues you the most? Hit reply and let me know!
